The Hummingbird's Ghost
![]()
Hummingbird's Ghost is a seedling of C. 'Pixie'.
Hummingbird's Ghost has a cream-colored flower with some pink lines on the labellum. It is shockingly bland for a canna. The extra-long stigma made me think of a hummingbird's beak.

Sugar Lips Is Ready For Her Close-up
![]()
Sugar Lips' flowers are covered with pink spots.
The cannas are beginning their Fall show here, although our weather is still quite hot. These two seedlings are interesting because their color is more nuanced than most cannas. You have to be really close to see the beautiful blending of color inside the flower.

Sugar Lips
![]()
Canna seedling 'Sugar Lips'
Sugar Lips has pale cream stamanodes (petals) covered with small light pink spots and magenta lines on the labellum (lower petal). The foliage is blue-green. It is from one of Alice Harris's hand-crossed whites seeds. I've decided to plant this one in the ground for further testing.

Reflexed flower
A reflexed flower is one where the petals turn sharply backwards. This is a seedling of Canna 'Thai Princess'. I bought the seeds on eBay.

Introducing Jimmie Jill
![]()
Canna 'Jimmie Jill' is a seedling of C. 'Ermine'
I want to name this canna after my sister-in-law, Jill Hill Forbes Fisher. She passed away in 2002. This canna flower is one of her favorite colors and Jill would have loved its playful look.
![]()
Jimmie Jill has wide-open apricot pink flowers.
I recently noticed that Jimmie Jill has a branching flower stem, so that means more flowers on each stalk. Self-cleaning, too, if the humidity is just right.

Jimmie Jill has wavy green foliage.

More Orange From Grackleflap
![]()
Grackleflap has small orange flowers.
I really love the foliage of this canna seedling. I want to find out how tall it will grow and if it will create seeds. I've decided to plant him in the pathway garden.

Dazzler Gaillardia With Canna Seedlings
![]()
I'm definitely dazzled by Dazzler
This is the first bloom of Gaillardia 'Dazzler' - who I grew from seeds. I have five of them in my rose garden and gave some to my Mom, too. They are supposed to be different colors. We shall see.
Notice the canna seedlings in 6" pots in the background. They are coming along nicely, already showing their own personalities. Some are shooting straight up. Others are short with curly leaves. Cute. It is a joy to watch them grow and develop.

Canna seedlings, 2/15/09
It's been nine days since I posted a photo of the seedlings. It sure seems like they are rocketing skyward. I will pot up the larger ones in a week or so.

Canna seedlings - 2/6/09
Only about half of the canna seeds in this tray have germinated, but never give up easily. Some may take three or four weeks to come up.

New Orange Canna Seedling
![]()
This canna seedling has spidery orange flowers.
Another orange seedling! I like this one very much! The soft orange flowers are about 3 inches across. It seems to be a dwarf with lightly wavy green foliage.

Last Minute Seedling Blooms
One of my seedlings finally opened a little orange flower.
I waited and waited for this one to bloom. I really like the long narrow foliage and got excited when I saw an orange and yellow petal peaking out of the bud. The flower turned out to be quite small.
Lovely leaves, tiny flower
This seedling of Canna 'China Doll' is the first of my 2009 seedlings to bloom!
