Mystery Cannas Fixing To Bloom

This striped leaf canna is new to my yard. It seems very happy in Las Vegas. It's growth could be described as aggressive. I'm really excited about seeing the flowers. The leaves make me think of C. 'Bangkok', but we shall see.

Collecting Canna Seeds

Seed pods of Canna 'Dawn Pink'

I'm collecting seeds from my canna plants. The seed pod forms at the base of the flower. If it is fertile, it will grow larger. Don't pick until the pod is completely dry and starting to crack. The seeds are dark and round. Notch the seeds with a file and then soak them for 48 hours. Plant 1/2" deep.

Canna Australia Seedlings Taking Hold

Canna 'Australia' seedlings are making themselves at home.

These young Canna 'Australia' seem to be taking a vigorous hold. They arrived here as seedlings about eight weeks ago. They have been unphased by Las Vegas summer temperatures. (Highest temp so far this year = 116F)

Ermine is a short little canna with light green leaves. This particular canna is a new seedling to my yard. I've got it growing in a large pot in dappled sunlight. I'm really excited to see it ready to bloom so quickly!
